The 2s mixed with experienced and young travelled to sidcup on which was to be a highly competitive local derby.

The game started off with gravesend on the front foot and applying pressure against the sidcup defence. With gravesend carrying the ball hard and making it over the gain line this then abled them to get quick ball and use their explosive backs. Gravesend finally got the breakthrough they deserved. Deep in their half Manbo saw a gap round the fringe of the ruck, picked up the ball at the back of the ruck sidestepping the full back to score the first try of the game and his first of the season! Straight away though Sidcup scored one of their own in similar fashion to Gravesend's as Sidcup's 9 picked and went to score under the posts. However, Gravesend straight away put pressure back on Sidcup as slick hands by the backs put Tom Wilkinson over the line with Rhys Betts nailing the conversion. Score at half time 12-7 with Gravesend clearly playing the better rugby.

The second half kicked off in similar fashion to the first as Gravesend still applied pressure to Sidcup. However a lapse in concentration and a few handling errors meant that Gravesend were unable to turn pressure into points. This allowed Sidcup to get back into the game with their forwards picking up and driving over the line. Gravesend applied pressure again with the forwards carrying well which released the backs. A penalty in front of the posts allowed Rhys Betts to kick over to leave the score at 15-12 with just under 15 minutes left. Sidcup again hit back and scored a debatable try as the ball seemed to be held up to leave the score at 17-15. Gravesend tried to come back with a try of their own but good defence by Sidcup meant that there was no further score to leave the final score at 17-15.

A tough loss for Gravesend as they thoroughly deserved the victory but nonetheless a great performance by all the team. The ex academy boys really stood out in the game with all of them showing heart and passion throughout the game. With 16 of the boys U21 this was a really good performance against a very strong Sidcup team.

Colonel Frampton "A fantastic game of rugby I thought we were very unlucky not to get the win. The ex-academy boys had a very good game and all stepped up to the plate."
