After two convincing pre-season victories, G's went into this fixture with confidence. Fielding an almost unchanged xv for three consecutive matches certainly helped and G's forward dominance in the first half put us in the ascendancy. Maintaining pressure and dominating field position, thanks to superb game-management by Rappers, the away side had no choice but to infringe at the breakdown. The boot of Goodacre made the most of the penalty count and the forwards rumbled over for a couple of scores.
The second half opened in much the same vein, with a sweeping move involving forwards (Wilko) and backs (Coate) interchanging, only for Gavin to drop the ball in the process of scoring. 'Fine'.
The only disappointing element to the game came when we lost shape and structure in defence, probably due to fitness, late in the second half.
Truer tests await this year and let’s see who fancies a little journey down to Deal and Betteshanger next weekend.
