Gannets take home the points..and that is all!

So the Gannets rocked up with their solid looking as ever 18, sorry 17 as Archie was stranded on his driveway, man squad,ready for their encounter with New Ash Green's second string, somewhat bolstered by the influx of those handsome young men from the Old Gs Academy. (They shall from hereon in be known as NAGOGS).

However, the NAGOGS rocked up with a grand total of 8 subs and when told politely that they couldn't play them all, decided that they would forfeit the game so everyone could get a run out. Fair enough.

So it was the Gannets playing up the banana that applied the early pressure using their gut, I mean weight advantage to good effect with their patented rolling maul making plenty of hard yards.Coming in from offside positions was pretty much the only means of stopping it and this employed numerous times throughout the proceedings. A try was coming and much to everyone's amazement it was Rich Mayhew who managed to cross the line without dropping the ball.

Dan Grants attempted conversion fell wide and short, much like Dan Grant, meaning that he hadn't scored yet.

So the NAGOGS finally woke from their slumber and started chucking the ball among their backs where their centre combo made decent headway into their hosts half. It was, however the fleet footed and elusive winger that evaded the despairing clutches of the Gannets defence to score under the sticks for the score. If only Matt Abbott were there. He would surely have saved the day.

The NAGOGS wasted little time in adding to their tally with the fullback picking a perfect line to cut straight through the heart of the Gannets defence and score from well inside his own half.

The Gs went back to basics and back to the rolling maul to once again knock on the visitors door. After a quite frankly hilarious botched tap penalty from Dan Grant he crossed the line only to be held up by some resolute NAGOGS defence meaning that he still hadn't scored.

It was the NAGOGS that added the only score of the second period with a neat sidestep and sheer pace undoing the normally staunch Gannets defence.

After the odd bout of handbags or four, it was the home side that finished with a bit of a burst as they pounded the visitor's line but were perhaps a little guilty of white line fever with the backs screaming for the overlap. A dropped ball later and it was game over.

So the Gannets get the win regardless and that's all that that matters here, but they can be proud of their battling performance against players that should be playing at least a division, if not more higher than this. Next up it's the Judds away and the Gannets will look to welcome back such players as the Predator, Ian "drunk" Shuttlewood and Yewtree Riley who has by all accounts been groomed by the Trumpets.
