The Gannets edge the Bulls in a match that was more exciting than the final score would suggest

This game was pretty much the epitome of social rugby at this level. With the perfect mix of youth, experience, poor fitness, cack handedness (Mayhem, natch) and expanding waistlines in equal measures on both sides, the result was a keenly fought, good tempered and absorbing contest that by and large went with the banana pitch slope.

The Gannets advantage could have been greater had Perri not missed a penalty and a conversion that were kickable by his usual standards. However,he more than atoned for this by making a pair of one on one,try saving tackles in the second period.

With the visitors attacking down the slope in the first half, the Gannets found themselves under the cosh but time and again held firm. The Bulls made good ground through the forwards pick and go game but stalled when the ball made its way out to the backs, with them seemingly unwilling to go wide, preferring instead to attack the Gannets ample gut.It was to the housewives favourites credit that they emerged at half time with only a 0-3 defecit.

The Gannets quickly took advantage of the slope in the second with a couple of forward raids sucking in defenders, the ball was spun out to the backs where Ukranian new boy Andriy Shevchenko (possibly not his real name) capped an impressive debut by powering over for the score.

So with the scoring over and done with the second half then proceeded to drag on for nigh on an hour with various stoppages for blood, kayos, waiting for Ash to return from a slash and general poor fitness. Some people on the sideline remarked that maybe the sundial on referee Normans wrist was maybe playing up but either way the various stoppages gave us the chance to admire to the uncanny likeness shared by by 'massive number 9' Ben Baker and the auburn bearded Aylesford prop.It really was quite remarkable.

Anyhow, squeaky bum time ensued at the death with the Bulls throwing everything they had at the Gannets line but it was all to no avail as the Gees held out for a just about deserved win.

WIth a bye week coming up it gives the likes of Sargey ample time to get their breath back before the visit of Anchorians on the 25th and hopefully time for us to find out our Ukraninan new boys name..

Until next time...
