Gravesend come from behind again to defeat Tunbridge Wells

Continuing their extended stretch of home matches the Gannets once again found themselves allocated the main pitch for their Saturday afternoon exertions and as continues to be the theme of late the squad muddled together with 3 of the starting XV making their way to the club just in time for kick off as a result of work and other commitments.

The less than ideal preparations probably do not help with the notoriously slow starts which plague the team and it proved to the same in this match. An early try to the visitors provided them with an early lead and the hope that they might follow up with their first victory of the season.

Fortunately this appeared to wake the Gannets from their slumber and an early try in response saw Dan Grant score Gravesend's first try of the game after good pressure off the back of the lineout by Rich Mayhew caused the ball to spill loose over the opposition tryline.

More tries followed in the first half from Matthew Abbot, jinking his way through the opposition, and Stephen Wootton after a good move in the backs put him into space. A further try by Tunbridge Wells narrowed the gap so every was left to play for in the second half.

A good chase from the restart by Andy McQuade put the pressure straight back onto Tunbridge Wells however and a well worked line out drive saw Dan Grant crash over from somewhat further out for his second try of the match. Straight from the kick off Paddy took the ball back deep into the opposition before support from the backrow saw Andrew McQuade finish off the move to score the Gannets fifth try.

Indiscipline saw Tunbridge Wells fight back from this point to secure another try themselves before Perri decided that a second chip and chase of the match from his own 22 was a good idea. On this occasion it worked out and he set up jetski to score his first (Gravesend) try of the season. One more try apiece for jetski and Tunbridge Wells saw the final score at 43-22 and set Gravesend up with back to back wins before the trip to Vigo next Saturday and even more reason to celebrate on their team night out to Milaad 2 Indian restaurant and the old club favourite the Somerset Arms.
