Tough tackling reduces try count

England coach Mark Roughsedge was in Gravesend today to see how far Gravesend RFC Wheelchair rugby has come in just 4 weeks and he was genuinely impressed with the remarkable progress, stating that there is real potential amongst the squad.

There was certaibly an increase in the amount of space denied the opposition and the tackle count was huge compared to previous weeks. This led to a real decrease in the amount of try scoring with Max Owen, Sue Fletcher, Henry Bowler, Libby Packham and Mathew Burrows being noted as getting in a great deal of tackles.

The largest spectator crowd of the season including Gravesham borough councillors Lyn Milner and Richard Smith who were specially invited to watch today were particularly impressed with a burst of speed from Ben Hope after linking up with Patrick Murray and Ben Ide on the half way point - Hope narrowly being held up before the line.
It was the fast wheels of Elliot Long who set up 2 tries in each half. New signing George Bowler capped a great first perfomance with two superb tries showing great speed and determination to touch down in the corners though try of the day was Tom McCarthy's second after a flowing move involving Liam Hammock where the ball was kept alive allowing Tom who had found space out left to break through and make it 16-0.

With this much progress in 4 weeks we could well see some of our squad getting to see Mark again in the future in some kind of England training camp.
