A well fought battle that proved you must play till the final whistle and never give up!!!!!

The conditions were set for a good morning of Rugby to be played at Gravesend on Sunday morning. The first half was an evenly matched contest with Gravesend Academy edging ahead at half time by a single penalty kick leaving the score finely balanced at 3 - nil.

Gravesend Academy had to defend this slight lead for most of the second half, until Tunbridge Wells went over to score an un-converted try with what they thought was the winning points (3 - 5). Gravesend were then awarded a number of penalties in their half which with time running out (they thought!!!!) they kept taking quick penalties to get them into Tunbridge's half. It was one of these penalties just out outside the Tunbridge Twenty Two were they elected to kick, this narrowly missed, but quick thinking by Josh Filmer, he collect the loose ball to score a try, with the conversion missed (8 - 5). With the clock running down Josh Filmer scored another try which was converted by Matt Bruce, to take the score to 15 - 5. There was still time on the clock for another try to be score by Hugh Bryant, again converted by Matt Bruce and the referee blew his whistle for the end of the game.

Final Score:-

Gravesend Academy - 22
Tunbridge Wells - 5

They now head to Ashford RFC for the Final of the Kent Plate this coming Sunday - 20th March against Cranbrook RFC - 11:30AM Kick off.

Good Luck to those involved both players and coaches, and rounding off a very productive first season for the Gravesend Academy.
