Time flies by, but the wrong result on the park.

Hold ups that left me and partner arriving late for lunch, only to hear that the team bus was part of the problem. At least we managed to feed before the team arrived for an agreed 15.30 kick off.
Having to bat first for the after dinner speeches at the past players lunch, we kept the audience in a light mood for the main event of the afternoon's entertainment, and then by 15.35 Gss were 0-10 to the good.
A Dave Dorton penalty success after just one minute was soon added to when Geoff Marshall, playing in a rearranged back line, at outside centre, ran through the opposition to touch down for a try. Dorton was again on target as the conversion sailed between the uprights for 0-10.
The strategy due to be employed by CS, a quick start while Gss recovered from their untimely delay on the motorway, had gone against them, but not for long.
Eight minutes in and following a series of drives to within five metres, the weight got behind a maul, and the home team's lively hooker, Josh Forrester, was driven over to touch down. Conversion successful from the boot of fly half Tom Hodgson and the score closed to 7-10.
When Gss were again caught offside in the centre of the line, inside their twenty-two, Hodgson added the three points to level at 10-10.
Both XVs looked to make chances as both defences held firm for the next ten minutes, Gss coming close, but unable to get the final pass away in space.
CS looked the more clinical with the ball going through the hands of the three-quarters, and when full back James Houstoun joined the line at speed, there was no stopping him as he raced towards the posts to score. Hodgson struck again from the tee to edge the home XV into lead 17-10.
Two more tries in the last ten minutes of the second period, the first from the very quick wing, Pumolo Banda and a second for hooker Forrester, with one converted by Hodgson put CS in front at the interval, a flattering 29-10.
With the home XV thinking the game could go further their way, it was they who came under fire as Gss took the game forward looking to get back on the board, and continued to keep a strong defence that denied CS any additions.
Gravesend were spreading the ball along the line at every opportunity, but a quickly up home back line closed them down preventing the breakthrough that Gss were looking for.
Seventy-seven minutes on the clock and a break away by CS saw them add to their first half tally, with conversion moving then to 36-10, but Gss were not to roll over.
Two minutes to play and Gss spurned the opportunity to add a penalty kick, and chose to run the ball, and this paid off as Matt Skinner finished over the line wide out, the conversion went across the posts, but Gss closed the score to 36-15.
Straight back from the re-start, looking to further add to the score, but with the clock in the red the whistle blew as the ball went into touch inside the home twenty-two.
To some this may have seemed to be a less than entertaining game, but the time passed quickly and the eighty minutes seemed over long before it sometimes seems.
