Never mind the hammering, who took Mike Woodbine's shirt??

Initially the eye of suspicion fell on Sam Taylor who had forgotten his towel. An XXl polo shirt would have made an ideal bath robe for a man of his stature but as it turned out,he used his training top to dry his bits and bobs As it turned out,the tea leaf was Lloydy.Lloydy?? How on earth could he have confused the shirt of a tight head prop with his own? Anyway,a trip to Tesco later and Mr Woodbine was all good.

What about the game of rugby i hear you say.Well,it was what it was.The Gannets were massively over matched against a team that to be fair, should be playing at least 2 leagues above their current level. But the Gees stuck to their task and put their bodies in way of their opponents time and time again..only for said opponents to run right around them at quite frankly, ridiculous speeds.

It was actually an even contest for the first 15 or so.Anchorians opened the scoring with said speed but the Gannets exerted their strength in the forwards, firstly shoving their hosts back in the scrum and then finishing off a multi phase drive that saw you know dive over for the score.

Anchorians knew where their strengths lay and then proceeded to keep the egg away from those pesky Gravesend forwards and let their backs run.. and run..and run.

In a 53 minute (?) first period they ran in 57 points.Mayhem decided that he was done for the day,Jets got changed and the Gannets subs entered the fray with all the enthusiasm of men walking to face a firing squad.

But to be fair, the lads stuck at it and limited their hosts to a measly 35 points in the second half.Woo hoo!

There really isn't much else to report on this other than to say that the Gannets win together but they also lose together and this defeat will not dishearten then but galvanise them for the games that lie ahead.Yes,they were a couple of key players light but would they have made a difference against a side who's backs would certainly give the Gees 2's a game?
No.

So it was back to HQ after for a few pints of the black stuff,a quick debrief and to look at photos of Mayhen when he was slimmer.

Amazingly they weren't black and white!

Until next year..
