England on fire in Fidenza to claim historic victory

England wheelchair rugby 7's team won 41-21 in Italy in front of an incredibly loud and large Italian set of supporters who remained at fever pitch even after Jason Owen took a quick tap penalty in his own half after 18 minutes, side stepping two players and passing out to Yorkshire's Keiron Johnson to go over for the first try of the game.

England dominated the first half with two more Johnson tries all converted by Warren McKee to lead 21-0 at half time.

An early penalty for England punched over by Martin Beddis from Liverpool and a try from Swindon's Martin Lane gave England a 29-0 lead with just 25 minutes to go but the Italians refused to give up and came back with three converted tries in just 11 frenzied minutes which sent the scores to 21-29 and gave a melting atmosphere within the arena.
However England settled and with GRFC's McKee, Owen, Lee Barnes and Ben Ide in the scrum winning an amazing 38 out of 42 scrums throughout the match, England stepped up a gear. First a penalty from Beddis after relentless England forwards pressure and then a try from Lane converted by Beddis after a fast paced slick passing move involving Barnes and Ide with Mckee sealing the final assist pass gave the visitors the 41-21 win.
