Fielding only 15 players due to injury Joe Eaton was forced into the front row something which is uncustomary for club but a role he has played in at school. That said early pressure from the Combe front row highlighted what was going to be a long afternoon for the Gs forwards. Winning good ball at both the scrum and in the loose Combe were able to release their well disciplined back line time and again with a combination of good hands and speed leaving Gs exposed out wide.
Gs tackling was poor and we were guilty of following the ball instead of maintaining our back line. That said, there were some notable efforts made and Gs did not give up in this Met Kent Cup game. Even losing Luke T to an arm injury the forwards carried on and started to get a foothold.
Ball to the backs was all too limited and in truth only kicking kept us away from our own line. We did manage to get close to scoring once but then the occasion all got to much and we failed to take a clean penalty which resulted in the ball being turned over.
Notable thanks to both Harry Richards and Mikhail Kravcek for stepping in and giving a good account of themselves.
Onwards next week to what will be another tough encounter against Beccehamians
