U15s come out on top in excellent game

With a hastily arranged game in the bag Gs hosted an Ashford B team which will be the reverse of the fixture in 2 weeks time. With both sides fielding a number of inexperienced players it was always going to be a scrappy affair. That said both sets of players contrived to put on an excellent show with some individual flair and no shortage of commitment making for an excellent game.

After some good early exchanges Gs got onto the scoresheet after a fine effort by Bowler who read the game well and intercepted the Ashford scrum half's pass to fly over from 5 yards. Bruce stepped up to make it 7 points with a fine connversion. Gs took their foot of the pedal and were guilty of letting their opponents have too much time on the ball which gave Ashford time to exercise some fine moves orhestrated by the fly half. On one occasion Gs were guilty of not being behind the kicker and from the resultant penalty were put under pressure near their own line. Despite winning the ball Gs were slow to clear and this time it was Ashford who intercepted to score close in.

Substitutions were made to give the Gs hearty contingent of 25 (not often you hear that) a game and it took some time for the team to regain their rhythm. After some marauding runs by Samraj and Levon, Gs were awarded a penalty close in and the quick tap by Bruce saw him capitalise on the slack marking to drive over for a score which he duly converted. (14-7).

The second half remained a close affair and only two fine scores by Josh was the dufference between the sides and flattered Gs somewhat. The first score by Josh followed a mazy run by Callum which released him and saw him pass out wide for Josh to score. The second was a fine chip and chase which after a luck bounce saw him outsprint the Ashford defence. Both tries were converted to give Gs a fine 28-7 win.

Ashford battled on to the end it was a great team effort. As for Gs special mention must go to the new lads Peter, Shamile (?), Oskar and Luke all of who made a great contribution.

Here's to the re-match in 2 weeks.
