G's start to believe

For what promised to be another tough fixture Gravesend headed to TJ's and played some good rugby when in possession but unfortunately let the TJ's left wing and No 8 run free and score 4 tries between them. 3 of these coming within the first 10-15 minutes, However there was a spirit that had been lacking in some of the bigger games earlier in the season and despite being 22 - 0 down at half time there was a look of determination among the team. TJ's made changes at the start of the 2nd half bring on a number of developing players but must have been shocked by the sudden change in Gravesend once they secured the ball and started to run with purpose. Patrick Murray started the comeback with a strong run through the middle, and this sparked some great handling and Owen Webster producing some strong running to power through two tackles that he had no right to break. From the restart Freddie Barrett caught the ball and spotted Rajan free on the wing he floated the perfect pass for Rajan to run onto and he picked a line committed to it and scored a great solo try. All three tries had been converted by Charles Martin and Ben Hope. With momentum now firmly in G's hands pressure was built in the TJ' s 22 and a quick bit of thinking from Ben Stellfox from a penalty saw him go over for Gravesend to take the lead. TJ's bought back some of their stronger players but by this time the boys confidence was up and they held out for a well deserved win. Fair play to TJ's though for involving their full squad as they would probably have got the result if they had kept their strongest team on the pitch.

It was at this stage of the season that the Gravesend coaching team decided that a midweek training session would help get the team to the next level to compete more against the bigger teams and also bring on the developing players within the squad
