GRFC win the Battle of Beccs

Gravesend under 10's found extra strength and determination just when they needed it to ensure they kept on top of Beccehamians. Winning 3 games and losing one (scores 5-4, 3-1, 1-2 and 3-0 giving us 12 try to 7 win or 60 points to 35) but our young G'sss needed to keep their focus on the rugby - the Beccs coaches were very fair and refereed the games well but some (just a few) of their players (and even parents) showed a lack of the 5 core values and brought too many non-rugby niggles to the game with a few unsporting moments but if a team wants a battle, then the under 10's will battle it out and that's what we did, keeping our calm and cool (most of the time) focusing on the rugby and try's in one particular game from Josh S (2) bursting through tackles with players bouncing off him, Max O showing increasing speed to match his strength and Fin MM always buzzing round looking for action after good work from Max M who continues to improve weekly proved to our lads that they can win matches playing hard and fair.
The whole of the team played well with Toby, Oscar, Jack, Harvey and Matthew supporting well in attack and stopping opposition going forward often tackling in pairs but it was William A who stood out with some excellent ball winning rucks.
Marcus running well and powerfully, Fin CS tackling with controlled aggession, Andreas (scoring his first ever try) and Josh B stretching his legs to stretch their defence stood out for the Eagles accoring to their coach Lee though he said the whole team including Arron, Josh H, Lewis, Nick and Rory all played well maintaining some defensive positions and ensured they won their final game 5 to 4.

We won the battle but like all good rugby games, hands were shaken, 3 cheers given and referees thanked.

It was also a pleasant surprise for this season (as so many other clubs are no longer offering food to visiting teams) when Beccehamians welcomed us in to their clubhouse at the end of the game and offered hot dogs, chips, pizza, cakes, drinks, burgers and free gifts - ok, just hot dogs really but just wanted to make those GRFC's that didn't realise we were getting free food a bit jealous!
