Gravesend got off to a flying start with a great 15-0 win over a tough Folkestone side. Tries from Harry (showing great ball handling), Fin M and Josh B (both showing excellent turn of pace) sealed the win but the passing and tackling was immense from the whistle to give the Gsss a great start to the festival. Special mention to Max M who hooked the ball very well in every scrum.
However, Sidcup went 2 tries up within 5 minutes as Gravesend were caught flat footed in game 2. Gsss rallied and ended a superb advert for rugby 4 tries to 2 down. Josh H playing some superb rugby throughout the competition getting the 2nd try. Gsss first try was a free flowing move involving several players with a superb blind flip behind pass from Max O enabled the hard working Marcus to complete a move he was involved in 3 times with good passing and moving.
In game 3, Gsss, most disappointing result, losing 3 tries to 1 against Medway. Medway are a team we've never previously lost to but on this occasion they fully deserved their win. One of the few positives from a Gss perspective from the first half was the running from Matt A who broke through opposition lines on several occasions.
Fin CS getting a late consolation try for Gravesend after good work in the line out from William A; and Fin CS deserved that after an earlier cracking tackle on a Medway player who was clean through with the try line getting closer and closer.
So, a quarter final against Aylesford completed our festival. Aylesford went 2 tries to 0 up but Arron C took the ball from the half way line, side stepping Aylesford tackles with great pace to get a try back before the 'tank', Josh S repeated the feat late on, battering through Aylesford to save the Gsss with a draw: a result which saw Gravesend progress to a semi final in late April against Dartfordians due to our earlier fair play bonus points.
