Driving rain, tears and pure determination and teamwork.

With temperatures bordering on freezing we arrived at Sevenoaks with winds rising and rain waiting to fall. And did it!

After attempting to warm up our travelling team of 15 were split into 3 teams of 5 playing against Sevenoaks teams of 6 and 7. To say it was freezing cold and wet and miserable was an understatement.

We played Sevenoaks; a good team with 5 against 6 or 7 in every game and in all cases out played, out ran and out fought in conditions which I’ve not played in before. We’ve had some bad mornings but the combination of wind and rain was really tough on the boys. They showed Character and Determination beyond their years to carry on when most of the other age groups had disappeared off the field.

Despite numb hands and bleary eyes there was some impressive play from the boys with great team play, support and defense.

I personally witnessed some great play and individual ability that I wish I had now let alone at the age of 7 and 6 in some cases. One specific case is in the last game I had the pleasure of coaching with Ian, where the boys were struggling to grab tags as their hands were cold but not once but twice won a turnover of the ball due to an epic defensive line and superb teamwork and communication.

The boys were amazing given the obstacles and made their coaches and I am sure their parents very proud.

Parents. Thanks for all the support, it showed how lucky we coaches are with the support we receive from you as we had 18 Boys turn up to an away game in these conditions and for you parents to stick it out was awesome, we can’t do it without you.
